Greg Gosson, Wood’s global technical leader for mine planning and evaluation, was recently presented as the 2020 Selwyn Blaylock Canadian Mining Excellence Award winner by the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM).

Greg has worked in the mining and minerals industry for more than 40 years, with a focus on grassroots exploration, feasibility and mine construction and production. Prior to joining Wood, he served as the chief mining advisor for the British Columbia Securities Commission and the principal securities regulator for over half the world’s public mining companies. In the role, Greg helped draft new civil liability legislation and guidelines for continuous disclosure obligations that are now in effect across Canada – where more than half of the world’s mining companies are listed.

While working at Wood, Greg has combined his knowledge of mining project evaluation with securities regulations of mining disclosure standards, to advise industry and regulators on disclosure requirements, mining standard definitions, and best practices from the global mining industry. His work for global mining companies has helped guide projects seamlessly through the complex challenges of defensible project characterization and subsequent public disclosures.

Commenting on this recognition, Greg said: “I am honored and delighted to accept this award on behalf of my colleagues who have devoted so much of their free time towards the goal of improving the standards and practices of the mining industry. It has been a privilege to work with such a dedicated group of accomplished individuals with a common goal.”

Mike Woloschuk, vice president of global mining consulting at Wood, said: “Peer professional recognition is among the highest forms of acknowledgement anyone can receive. I’d like to congratulate Greg on this tremendous achievement. His knowledge and leadership to the mining industry are unmatched through dedicated commitment to standards and his relentless pursuit of leading practices.”

Greg is a frequent speaker on mining disclosure requirements at industry forums and regularly provides industry commentary on the emerging trends that continue to transform the global landscape of mining.

On Tuesday 30 June, Greg will be sharing his insights in a free Wood webinaron how to navigate Preliminary Economic Assessments, which are often seen as the problem child of Canadian Securities Regulators and can have major impact on mining project success as well as enterprise value.
