Sir Ian Wood officially opened the new Wood Group office named in his honour, at a ceremony today (Thursday April 21). Located within the CityPark development on Hareness Road, Altens, Sir Ian Wood House accommodates 1,650 employees and is a key part of Wood Group’s strategy to consolidate its properties into three hubs located north and south of Aberdeen and in the city centre.
Sir Ian, who founded Wood Group more than 40 years ago, was among the 40 guests who marked the opening of the highly sustainable, fit-for-purpose office, which has achieved an ‘A’ rated energy efficiency status making it one of the most energy efficient buildings in Aberdeen.
Robin Watson, chief executive of Wood Group said: “The official opening of Sir Ian Wood House today signifies the successful completion of our long term strategy to develop three bases in the city, reflecting our continued commitment to the North Sea, our clients and employees who will significantly benefit from this new office and the consolidation of our properties.
“Our purpose as a company is to create and sustain value for our customers. The consolidation of our Aberdeen offices meets this objective by improving our building and cost efficiencies whilst strengthening our links to clients and enhancing the sharing of best practice across our business.
“It is entirely fitting that our new office is named in honour of Sir Ian who laid the strong foundations that remain at the root of Wood Group. Under his guidance and leadership the company evolved from ship repairing into a major international technical services company. We are extremely proud of our rich heritage and the relentless focus on excellence, which has transformed Wood Group over the last four decades and remains our driver today.”
Sir Ian Wood said: “We’ve come a long way since our offshore modification and maintenance workshop in Urquhart Road in 1975. We then thought John Wood House in 1979 was a huge step ahead and now this magnificent 216,000 sq ft building demonstrates huge further successful progress. I am very proud that Wood Group has named this new building after me. Success over many years has been based on the quality and commitment of Wood Group’s very fine management and employees across the world, and I send them my very best wishes for their continuing success and prosperity.”
The 216,000 sq ft office complex, was built by HFD Property Group Ltd. The move into the building was complete at the beginning of April.
