Corrosion control: predictive power play with Monte Carlo simulation
Wood is transforming the world through digital solutions with the appointment of German Carmona, President of Digital Consulting.
In November 2022, Wood announced its refreshed strategy, placing its digital and decarbonisation offering at its core.
“Digital transformation is singly one of the most important things we can do to meet the world’s demand for sustainable materials and accelerate towards a secure and affordable low-carbon economy,” say German, who joined Wood in 2021 to lead its Applied Intelligence business.
“Our digital offering is a key differentiator for Wood – not only do we have deep technical domain expertise in energy and materials, but we’re a leader in systems integration and asset performance management and optimisation.
“Digital transformation can sometimes be thought of as a buzz term. What we do in Digital Consulting is fill a technical gap between management and IT consulting and engineering because of our ability to combine our advisory services with tangible engineering solutions to design and implement a digital roadmap for our clients’ operating assets, both new and existing. We are digital architects, helping our clients design, layer, integrate and implement new digital and process technologies, while using data to drive and enhance the performance of their assets. It’s a journey not a destination.”
German has spent his career defining and executing digital transformation programs. Prior to Wood, German served as Principal Senior at Boston Consulting Group, before leading the successful implementation of the digital transformation strategy at CEMEX, a global materials company, where he held the role of Executive Vice president Finance and Information Technology overseeing customer journey, automation, business analytics and Internet of Things.
“Economics and incentives alone won’t be enough to transform the world. We need to innovate using digital and technological solutions, some of which don’t even exist yet. As a systems integrator, Wood can work independently to collaborate with technology providers, as well as leverage our own propriety technologies, to build a fit-for-purpose future-focused digital ecosystem that will automate, optimise, and drive value, safety, performance and decarbonisation for our clients.”
