Wood to deliver detailed design of Bannerman’s Etango uranium project
We supported Carbon Creek Energy on measuring their methane reductions, the biggest pilot study that we have conducted for Iris Edge technology to date, now extending to 4,200 wells.
The project began this year with a small sample study of 75 wells and will continue through the year with the remaining 4,125 wells. Across the pilot, different hardware was used to deploy the technology including robots and handheld methane detection tools.
As we operate many assets on behalf of our client, significant resources were being spent looking for and fixing issues without a precise location. Wood partnered with technology company, Xplorobot to bring the industry Iris Edge.
AsIris Edge does not require specially trained personnel, existing employees can complete inspections and incorporate these into their daily tasks, providing a discrete service that is embedded within normal operations.
With Iris Edge, the inspection collects the data and analyses the material remotely without intervention. The software is then able to log and report on the leaks.
In the pilot study, the software highlighted those 4 wells had leaks, which were repaired the same day. The operator was previously not aware of the leaks as they were low volume, however, the precision of the solution meant the operator received an instantaneous alert on exactly where the leak was resulting in an almost immediate fix.
Previously, it may have taken a full day prior to problem-solve the area of the methane leak, with Iris Edge this reduces the time down to 10 minutes.
As many clients in the US face the tax implications of the IRA (Inflation Reduction Act) Iris Edge can help reduce methane leaks and intensity through an actionable intel on asset conditions.
Iris Edge can present data in an accurate way fully autonomously. Allowing people working onshore to focus resource on providing brownfield solutions rather than problem-solving methane leaks.
We aim to partner with clients to provide responsibly sourced gas and become the industry standard on quantifying emissions – working together on the path to net zero.
Methane is one of the largest contributors of greenhouse gas emissions, Iris Edge provides an essential service by detecting detrimental leaks whilst continuing to support critical infrastructure.
At Wood, we are driving efficiencies by digitising operations to support decarbonisation efforts globally. Utilising this software, clients can dramatically reduce the carbon footprint of their assets, creating a much lower environmental impact on the world.
