OptiLay

Onboard installation monitoring and management software.

The OptiLay advanced onboard software system helps to monitor and plan installation operations from the bridge of a lay vessel.

The installation of offshore lines is becoming ever-more challenging, with greater demands being placed on contractors to maximise productivity and efficiency while minimising risk to line integrity. Achieving these significant and sometimes conflicting objectives requires careful analysis, planning and decision-making processes, both before and during project execution.

OptiLay has been specifically developed to help optimise such processes. It uses real-time measurements and simulations to provide greater clarity for decision making and improved vessel productivity, saving on survey costs and providing better control over as-laid pipeline integrity.

OptiLay automatically takes outputs from existing vessel measurement systems (e.g., DP, WAVEX, MRU, load cells, tensioners, etc.) and uses them to predict and display the behaviour of the line under prevailing and forecast conditions.

The general capabilities of the system include line integrity monitoring, workstation production monitoring, and motion and load monitoring. It is also worth noting that additional or unique project requirements can be facilitated through customisation and configuration of each OptiLay deployment.

OptiLay provides both operators and installation contractors with significant benefits that translate into direct cost savings and enhanced line integrity. These include:

  • Optimised offshore planning and clarity of product integrity for present and future conditions. OptiLay helps establish an optimum time frame for performing key operations, such as initial start-up, abandonment and recovery, to maximise productivity.
  • Real-time outputs alert offshore personnel of potential risks to product and vessel integrity, such as fatigue standby time, layback limits or clashing.
  • Improved understanding of where and when there are delays in the production process due to workstation overruns, quality control inspections or repairs. Such understanding can lead to potential cost recognition and future productivity gains.
  • Reduced need for continuous product departure and ROV touchdown monitoring, resulting in survey cost savings.
  • Reduced conservatism because simulations are based on realistic measurements rather than restrictive assumptions.
